The Makeup Show LA

The LA premiere of the The Makeup Show took place  March 15th and 16th at the California Market Center.  It’s put on by the The Powder Group and normally you have to make the trek to NY or Miami to check it out.   Not as big as the New York show but there were big names in makeup around every corner.

I went to see Billy B speak about his celebrity career, Sharon Gault (photographer David La Chapelle and Lady Gaga’s favorite makeup artist) speak about makeup for music videos shot in HD, Ve Neil, about her career in Film (she was the department head for all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies), and attended a workshop with John Hennessy on ‘Perfecting Beauty’ (he lives the dream, travelling  the world doing runway shows in Milan, Paris, Tokyo, and runs his own agency ‘Nobasura‘ in Vancouver BC ).  Dior artist Pati Dubroff was there as were the guys who started Smashbox Studios and Smashbox cosmetics, Dean and Davis Factor.

The best part was getting to look through John Hennessy’s  makeup kit, it’s fun to see what other artists are using and getting in on their secrets!  He gave me great feedback on the best foundations for modern lighting scenarios.  I had to buy the entire line of Makeup Forever’s HD foundation as well as the miracle moisturizer by Embryolisse, couldn’t live without it.

It was inspiring to chat with these folks and see that they go to work just like I do.  Ha!   The next show in the LA area will be the IMATS in June.  Can’t wait!!
